Free Chore App for Kids: What to Check Before You Download

Plenty of chore apps say free on the store page and ask for a card a week later. Here's how to tell the difference in two minutes, and what a free chore app for kids should let you do.

You search "free chore app for kids", download three, and by Thursday two of them want a card on file. The third is free but the thing you wanted, a second parent or a reward your kid can actually get, sits behind a lock.

Here's a quick way to check before you spend a weekend setting one up. It takes about two minutes per app.

The five-point check

1. Does it say what happens after the trial? Open the store listing and scroll to the in-app purchases section. If there's a list of monthly plans, "free" means "free for a week". That's fine if you know it going in, but most parents don't.

2. Can each kid have their own login? A free app that gives you one shared parent screen is a to-do list, not a chore app. Kids need to see their own list on their own phone, with no email address required.

3. Can your partner see it? If the second parent can't open the app, the whole list is back in one person's head. Look for a way to invite a co-parent without paying for a "family plan".

4. Can the chores repeat on their own? Beds, dishes, feeding the dog: you want to set these once. If you're re-adding them every Sunday, you'll stop in week three.

5. Where does the reward come from? Points that turn into a sticker are a chart. Points that turn into something your kid chose, a gift card or cash toward a goal, keep working for months. Check whether the reward side is part of the free app or an add-on.

What "free" means in Stimul8

Stimul8 is free for every family, and that includes the parts other apps lock:

  • Each kid gets their own login on their own phone. No email needed.
  • Invite your partner with a private link.
  • Set an Activity once and it repeats daily or weekly.
  • Ask for a photo when you want to see it done.
  • Kids save toward something real: Roblox, Amazon, cash, or a reward you choose. Stars count toward a reward you pick, like a sleepover or a later bedtime.

Three ready-made Activities get you going in about a minute.

Set it up in ten minutes

Add your kids, give each one three chores from our chores by age list, and let them pick their first goal. Then stop reminding for a week and let the list do its job. If you're comparing it with a paper chart, here's how to set up a chore chart for kids and what each option is good at.
